Harrisburg-based organization appoints new leader

The new leader of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission is a familiar face, having worked for the organization for a decade.

Andrew Bomberger was named the new executive director for the Harrisburg-based organization.

Bomberger succeeds Steve Deck, who retired at the end of August after seven years as executive director. Bomberger has worked for the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission for a decade. He previously served as a regional planner and as transportation planning coordinator.

Bomberger said two of his top priorities for the near future are updates to the 2040 Regional Growth Management Plan, which promotes economic growth and revitalization, and the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan, which sets long-range transportation priorities for Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties.

“My primary goal is to strengthen our relationships with local municipalities, partners and stakeholders to ensure the region is a safe and vibrant place to live and work,” he said in a news release.

The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission was founded in 1966 and provides land use and transportation planning for Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties. The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission employs 13 people. Its primary programs include the Regional Growth Management Plan, the Harrisburg Area Transportation Study, and staff support for the Dauphin County and Perry County planning commissions. The organization also launched the SusqueCycle bike share program last year.

After 40 years in the Veterans Memorial Building on the first block of Market Street in downtown Harrisburg, the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission moved its offices in June to the third floor of Strawberry Square at 320 Market St. in Harrisburg.
