Decentralized ID Company Gataca Launches Age Verification for Adult Entertainment Platforms

Decentralized digital identity company Gataca has launched a new age verification product aimed at the adult entertainment industry. The Gataca Vouch is designed to allow users to prove they are of legal age without revealing their personal information, relying on ID wallets and verifiable credentials.

The Madrid-based company bills itself as a privacy-first company with a mission to spread the gospel of autonomous identity (SSI) across Europe. The company is piloting the EU Digital Identity (EUDI) wallet, offering decentralized digital IDs and verifiable credentials for higher education credentials in Spain.

Gattaca claims its solution outperforms existing digital age verification methods in terms of privacy: Federated identity systems like those from Google or Facebook store user information while also transmitting digital versions of government IDs, sharing even more information. Facial age estimation technology, which requires biometric analysis of users’ faces, also raises privacy concerns and can be error-prone, the company says.

With Gataca Vouch Identity Provider (IdP) solution, users can prove they are of legal age by scanning a QR code and providing verifiable credentials from their Gataca wallet. This method leaves the user anonymous and does not share personal information, not even their exact age.

In addition to adult sites, Gataca also specializes in dating, gaming, social media, and age-restricted e-commerce.

“By addressing the critical area of age verification, which is often hampered by over-sharing, we continue to maximize privacy while providing critical protections for minors,” said Irene Hernandez, CEO of Gataca.

In December last year, Gataka raised €1.3 million ($1.4 million) in strategic investment from Signature Venture, according to EU Startups magazine.
