Snow in Scotland’s highest mountains, wind brings Arctic air

The first autumn snow has fallen on some of Scotland’s highest mountains.

The Cairngorms, Glen Coe and Lochaber are among the mountain areas where snowfall can be observed.

Strong north-westerly winds brought colder Arctic air to the UK.

According to BBC Weather, snowfall in the Scottish Highlands is not unusual in September, at the start of the colder winter months.

Snowfall in the Cairngorms

Nights may be cool and frost may occur in rural areas.

According to BBC Weather, there will be another change in wind direction to the south-west on Friday and the weekend.

He added that this wind direction tends to increase average seasonal temperatures – around 16–20°C in mid-September.
