Earthquake shakes Los Angeles area

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An earthquake was widely felt in the Los Angeles area Thursday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a preliminary magnitude 4.7 earthquake with its epicenter 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) north of Malibu.

According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 7 miles (11 kilometers) below the surface.

The shock was felt as far as 45 miles (72 kilometers) in Orange County.
