Tim Robinson Comedy ‘Chair Company’ Picked Up to Series at HBO

HBO has officially ordered The Chair Company, a comedy series starring and co-creating Tim Robinson.

The project was originally announced with a pilot order in April. Robinson co-created the series with Zach Kanin, and both also served as executive producers.

The official description of the situation reads as follows: “After a compromising incident at work, a man (Robinson) begins investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.”

Robinson plays William Ronald Trosper. The cast also includes Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, and Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini. Lou Diamond Phillips guest starred in the pilot as Jeff Levjman.

In addition to Robinsin and Kanin, Adam McKay and Todd Schulman are executive producers of “The Chair Company” through HyperObject Industries. Igor Srubshchik is also an executive producer. Andrew DeYoung is an executive producer and directed the pilot.

“With the kind of character influence that only Tim and Zach can bring to the table, William Ronald Trosper follows in the strong tradition of HBO’s signature comedy characters,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president, HBO & Max Comedy Programming. “I couldn’t be happier to announce the acquisition of this wildly enjoyable series.”

This is the second HBO comedy to go from pilot to series this week. HBO also recently announced that an untitled comedy from “Bottoms” co-writer and star Rachel Sennott has been greenlit.

“We are incredibly excited and grateful to be creating this series with HBO, HyperObject and the incredible cast and crew who helped make it happen,” Robinson and Kanin added.

Kanin and Robinson have collaborated frequently, beginning with their collaboration on “Saturday Night Live.” They went on to co-create the popular Comedy Central series “Detroiters,” starring Sam Richardson and Joe Kelly (which stars Robinson and Richardson) and the Netflix comedy series “I Think You Should Leave” (which also stars Robinson). The latter show won an Emmy for Outstanding Short Form Series in 2023, and Robinson has won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Short Form Series twice.

Robinson is repped by CAA, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and attorney Melissa Fox. Kanin is repped by WME and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
