Razer’s new wireless keyboard is hot-swappable and has an OLED screen

Razer presented handful new products at RazerCon last week. Trust me, that was two solid hours of going from table to table. But the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% keyboard was one of the launches that stuck with me until the end of the event. Even after a whole week, I was pestering a coworker to look at all the pictures of it on my phone.

The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a wireless, hot-swappable gaming keyboard with an OLED screen. Hot-swappable means you can swap out all of the switches and keycaps if you want to personalize it. This isn’t Razer’s first hot-swappable mechanical keyboard. This keyboard’s predecessor, the BlackWidow V4, was the company’s debut gaming keyboard with hot-swappable keys, albeit a wired model. Razer isn’t exactly ahead of its competition in gaming peripherals with its OLED display, either. The SteelSeries Apex Pro already offers one.

The new Razer keyboard also boasts patented HyperSpeed technology and 4K Hz HyperPolling. The Chroma RGB on this device is pretty standard for many other Razer keyboards. You get per-key lighting and dual-sided lighting. You can use the Razer Chroma app to customize the lighting and create multiple lighting profiles. A soft, plush leatherette palm rest with very generous padding magnetically attaches to the bottom of the device.

The OLED display sits next to the Command Dial, which lets you scroll through settings and see actions on screen. You can use the dial and display to quickly check stats related to your computer or keyboard, and change keyboard settings like polling rate or RGB Chroma profiles on the fly.

Featuring multi-point connectivity, the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% can wirelessly connect to up to three devices at once, even while charging. You probably won’t be reaching for a power outlet very often, though. Enabling the device’s power-saving mode turns off the OLED and RGB displays and halts communication with the companion Razer Synapse app. In this mode, it apparently lasts for 2,100 hours before you’re tethered to a power outlet again.

Razer’s latest keyboard ships with proprietary Orange Tactile Switches Gen-3, but they can be swapped out for 3- and 5-pin mechanical switches. The keyboard was initially sent to a handful of YouTubers whose channels revolve around customizing keyboards, and some of them were at the show to show off their final results. It was interesting to see the range of designs. The endless possibilities of customization that a hot-swappable keyboard offers are endless.

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is available for pre-order now on the Razer website and in Razer stores. The retail price is $300 and the device will be available on September 24.
