Missouri hunters face new fall turkey season regulations

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – Hunters should be aware that there will be some changes to the 2024 fall turkey hunting season in Missouri.

The Missouri Department of Wildlife now requires that fall turkey hunters, whether using a firearm or archery, purchase a fall turkey permit. That means turkey permits will be separate from regular bowhunting permits.

The fall turkey hunting season will now be split between archery and firearms, and the total hunt limit has been reduced from four turkeys to just two birds, male or female.

Two turkey permits cost $14 and are required for both archery and firearms. They will now be purchased separately from deer permits.

MDC says fall turkey hunting regulations were changed after a public request, a way to reduce the fall turkey harvest while still maintaining opportunities for hunters.

Heartland MDC Agent Travis Phillips believes it is important to listen to the public to know if changes need to be made that will benefit the environment and people.

If you still have questions about the new regulations or changes, Phillips recommends getting the new Fall Deer and Turkey brochure. New or changed regulations will be highlighted throughout the book. The brochure is available for free at the wildlife center or where permits are sold.

The first part of the turkey and deer archery season will begin on Sunday, September 15 and will last through November 15.
