Real Madrid cancels concerts at Bernabéu due to noise regulations

Real Madrid have cancelled all upcoming concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium to comply with noise regulations in the capital.

The 85,000-capacity stadium often hosts world-famous artists. Last season, Madrid asked La Liga to postpone the final match of the 2023-24 season to give the club more time to prepare for a Taylor Swift concert.

However, the club claims that despite the introduction of additional measures to soundproof the Bernabéu Stadium, it does not meet the requirements in force in Madrid for hosting concerts.

As a result, new dates will be announced for Spanish artist Dellafuente, who was due to play at the Bernabeu in November, and singer-songwriter Aitana, who was due to play two nights in December. K-pop concert Music Bank, due to take place in October, has also been cancelled.

A club statement read: “Real Madrid CF announces that it has taken the decision to temporarily postpone the schedule of events and concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

“This decision is part of a series of actions taken by the club to ensure strict compliance with current city regulations during concerts.

“Despite the acoustic insulation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and the reinforcement measures taken, compliance with these regulations by the various organisers and promoters was made difficult by the enormous challenge they faced in taking into account all its rules.

“Real Madrid will continue to work to ensure that concerts have the appropriate sound production and transmission conditions that will allow concerts to be held at our stadium.

“Real Madrid will continue to work with the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council for sustainable development and coexistence, and will always strive to ensure that activities at the stadium guarantee a commitment to the city of Madrid and are beneficial to the environment.”

Artists who have performed at the Bernabeu over the years include Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and U2.

The Bernabeu Stadium is currently undergoing a redevelopment that began in 2019. The renovation included the introduction of a retractable pitch, a retractable roof and a 360-degree scoreboard.

With the retractable pitch and roof, Madrid expects to generate more revenue from hosting other sporting events. The stadium is set to host NFL regular-season games in 2025.
