Tumbbad’s spectacular return: a triumph at the box office and a sequel announced

Actor-producer Sohum Shah’s “Tumbbad” made a triumphant return to theatres, earning Rs 1.65 crore net on the first day of its re-release. This is almost three times bigger than its original opening six years ago, marking a significant achievement for the filmmaker.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and produced by Shah’s Sohum Shah Films, Tumbbad garnered critical acclaim upon its release in 2018. It grossed Rs 65 lakh on its opening day and ended its run with a net gross of over Rs 12 crore.

On public demand, Tumbbad returned to theatres and the response from fans was overwhelming. The film’s re-release revenues are surpassing those of other classic films like Sholay, Mughal-e-Azam and Rockstar. The enthusiastic reception surprised even the cinema exhibitors who were anticipating a long run for the film. Shah also announced a sequel which will delve deeper into the theme of greed.
