Mary Moraa’s earnings in the 2024 Diamond League after winning her second title

Mary Moraa won her second Diamond League title in the 800 metres in Brussels on Friday, September 14.

The Kenyan star produced a phenomenal finish to beat Georgia Bell to secure the title after a frustrating Olympics.

She will take home the Diamond Trophy and thousands of dollars, in addition to the millions of shillings she received for winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

The 24-year-old took part in five Diamond League meetings in 2024, including the final in Brussels.

She won four of them, and suffered her only defeat in May at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon, where she lost to Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson.

Moraa’s first victory came in Doha, where she clocked 1:57.91, according to World Athletics. She lost in Eugene just before the Olympics, but has been in form ever since.

The world champion won in Lausanne and Zurich before taking the title in Brussels.

The Kenyan star will compete in the women’s Athlos track and field race in New York later this month. Her compatriot Faith Kipyegon will also be taking part.

Mary Moraa’s Earnings in the Diamond League

Each Diamond League match winner earns $10,000 (1.29 million Kenyan shillings). The top eight in each match and the final receive cash.

In the Diamond League final, the winners receive $30,000, the runners-up receive $12,000 and the third-place finishers receive $7,000.

Thanks to four wins and a second place finish, Moraa earned a total of $66,000 (8.8 million shillings).

Moraa also earned thousands of dollars after breaking the world record in the 600-meter race in Berlin earlier this month.

According to Adweek, at the end of this month in Athlos she will compete for a cash prize of $500,000 and 10% of the event’s revenue.

Moraa broke the record that had stood since 2017. The prize money at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet is relatively lower than at other meets.
