Indonesia aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix to 23% by 2025.

JAKARTA, 14th September 2024 (WAM) – Indonesia has set a number of ambitious renewable energy development goals as part of its commitment to sustainable development and reducing carbon dioxide emissions, The Indonesian News Agency (ANTARA) reported.

These goals are included in several documents and strategies, including the National Energy Plan (RUEN) and the General Electricity Supply Plan (RUPTL).

Under RUEN, Indonesia aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix to 23 percent by 2025 and 31 percent by 2050. The target includes several renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, bioenergy, hydropower and geothermal energy.

In addition, Indonesia has set renewable energy capacity development targets for specific periods in the RUPTL. For example, the RUPTL for 2021-2030 sets a target for significant expansion of renewable energy capacity, including solar, wind and bioenergy projects.

By increasing its use of renewable energy, Indonesia is also delivering on its commitment to join the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by achieving its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target under the Paris Agreement.

The country is making efforts to accelerate the energy transition and reduce carbon dioxide emissions through a range of policies to promote the development of renewable energy sources, including tax incentives, financial support and regulations to support investment.

Indonesia is also implementing a mandatory policy requiring the use of renewable energy sources in the electricity and fuel sectors, including a requirement to blend biofuels with fossil fuels.
