Hyderabad, September 14 (KNN) The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, in collaboration with Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, convened an interactive session with industry representatives to discuss the recently launched Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme.

The meeting, chaired by Ms Sumita Dawra, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, was held in Hyderabad and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Labour, EPFO and leaders from various sectors including pharmaceuticals, construction, public sector undertakings, manufacturing and finance, and representatives of SMEs.

The aim of the session was to raise awareness of the three programmes included in the ELI initiative, introduced in the EU budget for 2024-2025.

The ELI programme aims to create more than 20 million jobs across the country within two years, with a focus on sectors that significantly contribute to job creation and improving living conditions.

Secretary Dawra highlighted the factors driving employment growth, citing sectors such as trade, manufacturing, services and construction.

She noted that while government data from sources such as the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) and the KLEMS database indicate employment growth, quality of employment remains a parallel objective. Emerging areas of employment were also discussed, including gig and platform work, as well as Global Competence Centers (GCCs).

The session included a presentation of the ELI programme and the Prime Minister’s package consisting of five programmes on employment, skills development and internships.

During the interactive part of the meeting, industry participants provided constructive suggestions aimed at developing a practical and feasible plan.

Secretary Dawra emphasised in her closing remarks that the ELI programme is an important step towards creating a more prosperous and inclusive India.

She stressed the importance of joint efforts and wisdom of all stakeholders, including lessons learned from previous similar initiatives.

The Secretary also announced that additional interactive sessions will be held in the future as part of the process of finalizing the ELI program prior to its implementation.

The government’s initiative to engage with industry stakeholders underlines the government’s commitment to tackling unemployment and supporting economic growth through targeted incentives and joint policy-making.
