LifeFlight of Maine Founder Appointed to Federal Advisory Board

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – The executive director and founder of Maine’s only air ambulance service is changing our nation’s capital.

Thomas Judge founded LifeFlight of Maine in 1998.

He has been working as a paramedic and medic for over 40 years.

In October 2023, he resigned from his position to focus on legislative activities and supporting the LifeFlight research group.

Judge was appointed to the Advisory Committee on Air Ambulance Quality and Patient Safety of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Congress established the Commission under the No Surprises Act to prevent patient balance billing disputes.

In a letter announcing the nomination, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said the judges’ “experience and leadership will provide valuable insights and perspectives to help advance the commission’s mission.”

Under his leadership, LifeFlight of Maine received numerous awards for safety, innovation and clinical excellence.
