Kayla Harrison Opens Up About Feud With Former Teammate Amanda Nunes: ‘Don’t Mess With My Buddies’

The judoka hadn’t fought since making her promotional debut at UFC 300 in April. That night, Kayla Harrison faced former bantamweight champion Holly Holm. Despite “The Preacher’s Daughter” attempting to capture the title, she was battered en route to a second-round knockout loss.

A few months after that big win, Kayla Harrison has booked herself another trip to the Octagon. At UFC 307 next month in Salt Lake City, the former PFL star will face fellow contender Ketlen Vieira. The Brazilian comes into the fight having won three of her last four fights, most recently defeating Pannie Kianzad in July of last year.

Kayla Harrison is hoping to earn a title shot with a win at UFC 307. However, the bantamweight title contender is also hoping to bring Amanda Nunes out of retirement. “The Lioness” retired after a decision win over Irene Aldana last summer, but has expressed interest in returning to fight Harrison.

For those who remember, Amanda Nunes famously left American Top Team before her retirement, in part because of Kayla Harrison. In a recent interview with MMA fightsThe former PFL tournament winner was asked about her feud with “The Lioness,” with Harrison stating that her grudge against Nunes largely revolves around her leaving their gym in 2022.

“Selfishly, I hope that happens (Amanda Nunes retires),” Kayla Harrison said in a recent interview ahead of her UFC return. “But again, I have nothing against Amanda other than she’s trying to throw American Top Team under the bus. Don’t mess around or fuck with my buddies. But listen, if she’s happy and living her dream, that’s great.”

She continued, “But selfishly, I wish she would come back so I could silence all this noise. But again, one step at a time. First Ketlen, then the title, then Amanda, if she wants.”
