Lagos State Government confiscates 28 vehicles at Berger Bus Stop for illegal parking

Lagos State authorities have impounded 28 vehicles at the Berger bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway for illegally converting the designated rest area into a makeshift garage.

The move was part of a broader traffic enforcement effort by the Ministry of Transportation and the state task force to improve traffic flow and public order. The update was shared on the official Ministry X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday.

In a statement on Saturday on the X account of the Lagos Ministry of Transport, Commissioner for Transport Seun Osiyemi explained that the illegal parking caused serious obstruction to traffic and the vehicle stops were necessary to restore the fluidity of traffic and facilitate commuters.

“The Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Seun Osiyemi, who made this known, stated that 28 vehicles were stopped at the Berger bus stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Lagos exit) for illegally converting the designated roadside into a makeshift garage during a recent operation carried out to streamline the flow of traffic in the metropolis,” the statement read.

The statement said Osiyemi reiterated that the government was committed to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring that Lagos roads remain orderly and traffic-free.

He assured the public that similar checks would be routinely carried out across the state to prevent further illegal activities and maintain an efficient road network for all road users.

  • Commercial vehicles without a valid garage entry permit or without such a permit, as well as those driven outside approved hours or on routes covered by an entry ban, are also subject to towing.

Additional offences include smoking, drinking alcohol or eating while driving, failing to give way to pedestrians at pedestrian crossings, parking illegally and driving trailers, tankers or tippers without adequate lighting or without secured containers.
