North London hospital trusts plan to merge in the new year

Subject to approval from NHS England in the autumn, the formal merger of the two trusts should take place by 1 January 2025, Landstrom said.

The RFL and North Middlesex have worked together for many years, first as clinical partners in 2017 and then as formal partners in 2021.

In January, they announced they were exploring the possibility of a merger.

The RFL Foundation runs the hospital that bears its name in Hampstead, as well as Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield.

The North Middlesex University Trust operates a hospital bearing its name in Edmonton.
