JSW Energy launches 300 MW wind farm in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu

New Delhi (India), September 15 (ANI): JSW Energy Ltd on Sunday said that its subsidiary JSW Renew Energy Two Limited has successfully completed technical commissioning of a 300-MW ISTS-connected wind power project awarded by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.

According to documents filed by the company on the stock exchanges, it is the first company in history to commission the construction of a greenfield wind farm for SECI.

“The newly launched wind farm project will significantly enhance our renewable energy portfolio, supporting our vision of a greener and more sustainable future,” the company said in a statement.

The company said in the letter that an additional 150 MW of wind power allocated under SECI Tranche X in Dharapuram, Tamil Nadu, is almost complete and 138 MW has already been commissioned.

“After this, the total current installed capacity stands at 7,726 MW and the under construction capacity stands at 2,114 MW, which is expected to be commissioned by the end of fiscal year 2025. The company’s current installed wind capacity stands at 2,152 MW,” the company said in a statement.

Reacting to the development, Sharad Mahendra, Managing Director and CEO, JSW Energy, said, “Today, JSW Energy proudly commissions its first greenfield wind power plant for SECI, reaffirming our strong execution capabilities and commitment towards a greener future for India. This achievement brings us closer to our target of 10 GW of installed capacity by fiscal 2025. Moreover, we have a strong portfolio of renewable projects, which is propelling us towards our target of 20 GW by 2030. I express my sincere gratitude to our dedicated team and partners for their unwavering support.” As per the filing, JSW Energy has a total locked-in generation capacity of 18.2 GW, comprising wind, solar, hydro and thermal. The company’s current renewable portfolio stands at 8.3 GW and PPAs have been signed for 2.3 GW.

According to the documents, the company also has 4.2 GWh of stored energy in a battery energy storage system and a pumped-storage power plant energy storage project.

Going further, the filing added that the company aims to achieve 20 GW of generating capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. According to the filing, JSW Energy has set itself an ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

JSW Energy commenced commercial operations in 2000 by setting up its first two 130 MW thermal power plants at Vijayanagar, Karnataka. Since then, the company has steadily expanded its generating capacity from 260 MW to 7,726 MW, with a portfolio spanning 3,508 MW of thermal power, 2,152 MW of wind power, 1,391 MW of hydro power and 675 MW of solar power, providing diversity in terms of geographical presence, fuel sources and offtake agreements, it said.

According to information provided by the company in its stock exchange filings, the company is currently implementing various power projects with a combined capacity of 2.1 GW and its vision is to achieve a combined generating capacity of 20 GW by 2030. (ANI)
