UPDATE:

WHO FIRED THE SHOT?

Local news organizations in Florida say the Secret Service fired the shots. They considered it a threat because they saw a man who posed a threat, possibly carrying an AK-47 rifle, outside Trump International Golf Course.

This golf session was NOT publicly available anywhere. President Donald Trump he told Fox News Bret Baier said everything was fine and the Secret Service did their job and did it brilliantly. WHAT DO WE KNOW NOW?

The Associated Press is now reporting that a Secret Service agent did indeed open fire on an individual:

Local officials in Florida say they have a suspect in custody. An AK-47 rifle was reportedly dropped in the bushes. Officials had a description of a car that was leaving the golf course, and the vehicle was stopped.

According to local media reports, the shots were fired near the fifth hole of Trump’s golf course, a spot where a vehicle could pull out.

Fox News reports, via Sean Hannity, that a drone was used to help find the person responsible for the shooting. Additionally, Hannity says that Erik Trump told him that Donald Trump was only about 200 yards from the area the suspect allegedly fled.

The US intelligence service confirmed the incident, and Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said:

President Trump is safe after shots were fired near him. No further details at this time.

According to CNN, the former president was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach when the situation began to unfold. After hearing the shots, a source close to the situation said the course was closed. Expect more details about what happened to be released soon.

Below is an excerpt from the Associated Press:

Trump returned to Florida this weekend from a West Coast trip that included a rally in Las Vegas on Friday and a fundraiser in Utah.

Campaign representatives did not provide any additional details at the outset.

No injuries were reported, according to a spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.

A law enforcement official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation, said officials were trying to determine whether the shots were fired near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach or on the grounds. The official was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
