Travel chaos, increased flood damage in Central Europe

Extensive flooding in Central and Eastern Europe caused by heavy rains is disrupting rail transport and leading to more frequent evacuations, as well as damage to homes and infrastructure.

Some of the worst scenes on Sunday were in southwestern Poland. In Głuchołazy, a temporary bridge was torn off and another still under construction was damaged as floodwaters swept through the town. In Stronie Śląskie, a dam collapsed, cutting off the town of about 6,000 people from the surrounding area.
