BJP MP urges govt to take urgent action against Amazon, Flipkart

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal has urged Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to urgently intervene in the wake of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) probe that found serious violations by Amazon and Flipkart. Khandelwal called the CCI report a historic milestone in the history of global regulation, highlighting the gross violations of antitrust laws by both the companies.

Stressing the need for speedy implementation of e-commerce regulations under the Consumer Protection Act and Comprehensive E-Commerce Policy, Khandelwal demanded immediate action against the brands mentioned in the CCI report. He advocated suspension of operations of Amazon, Flipkart and their associated brands, citing their anti-competitive practices as harmful to domestic traders.

Khandelwal outlined serious anti-competitive behavior by e-commerce giants, including preferential treatment, deep discounting and collusion with major brands. He noted that these actions undermine Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of strengthening domestic trade and disproportionately hurt Indian sellers, creating an uneven market landscape.
