JAMMU, September 15: A review meeting of the Trikuta Nagar Social Welfare Society (TNWS) under the chairmanship of Rajinder P. Kakkar was held today where various issues related to the development of Trikuta Nagar Colony were discussed.
One of the main concerns raised by the problem was the growing population of stray dogs, which led to frequent cases of bites affecting children, women and the elderly, especially early in the morning and late in the evening.
Another issue under discussion was the recent 100% hike in monthly garbage collection charges by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) from Rs 100 to Rs 200. Residents expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of service, calling the hike unjustified. There were also concerns about the condition of speed bumps, as many of the reflective buttons (cat eyes) had been moved.
They also demanded the removal of old electricity poles and wires that have become black spots in the colony. Residents feel that this negatively impacts the Smart City project and the overall look of the area. The issue of inadequate drinking water supply was also raised as residents continue to face acute shortages despite promises of improvement.
It also highlighted the irregularity of garbage collection, especially the lack of lawn waste collection. This has become a particular burden for the elderly and the authorities have been urged to address this issue. It also stressed the need for regular de-silting and reconstruction of blocked drains in some sectors.
The meeting was attended by several residents including Dr TR Gupta, Vijay Gupta, Anil Sharma, KK Mahajan, Krishan Lal Gupta, Kewal Sher and Deepak Daftari. The residents urged the authorities concerned to take immediate action to resolve these issues quickly.
