With the demand for Delhi elections as early as November, AAP leaders in Maharashtra feel that the knock-on effect of a good performance in the national capital could boost their chances in Maharashtra, where assembly elections are due around the same time

Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement of resigning as Delhi Chief Minister and pushing for early elections has energized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members ahead of the state assembly elections in Maharashtra. The move has sparked enthusiasm among AAP members in the state, who are likely to contest the assembly elections either on their own or as part of an India bloc.

Kejriwal’s bold move is being seen as a calculated strategy to maximise AAP’s influence not only in Delhi but also outside it, including Maharashtra. With the demand for Delhi elections to be held in November, AAP leaders in Maharashtra believe that the knock-on effect of a solid performance in the national capital could boost their chances in Maharashtra, where assembly elections are due around the same time.

Abhijit More, state secretary, AAP, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is filing false cases against APP leaders and painting a false narrative against the party and its leaders. Now, senior party leaders have directed us to start preparations to contest all 288 seats in the state. However, the decision regarding the coalition will be taken by the party chief, when required.”

It was reported that Kejriwal was busy with administrative work as Delhi Chief Minister and after his resignation, he would have more time to focus on growing the party and strengthening the organisation.

“With the time available, Kejriwal has the potential to expand the party in states like Haryana, Jharkhand, Delhi, Punjab and Maharashtra, among others. Resigning as CM will give him some time to focus and issue directions to party members on expanding the party before the assembly elections,” he said.

The state secretary said the AAP party is working for the common man and the welfare of the general public. “The decision to resign has cleared the false narratives spread by the BPJ and the allied party members as our leader has resigned without any pressure or demand. This resignation shows the moral high ground of the party. It will increase the trust in Kejriwal and ultimately in the APP among his supporters, followers and the common man. Like other party leaders, the AAP party is not attached to power and leadership but works for the public,” he said.
