New iOS 18 Features

Apple iOS 18 brings more personalization options to iPhones, the “biggest update yet” to the Photos app, new ways to manage your inbox in the Mail app, Satellite Messaging, and more.
Npoor personalization options
With iOS 18, iPhone users will be able to customize their Home screen, Lock screen, and Control Center. Users can now arrange apps and widgets in any open space on the Home screen, including placing them right above the dock for easy access or framing them perfectly with your wallpaper. App icons and widgets can take on a new look with a dark or dim effect, and users can make them appear larger to create the perfect experience for them.
Apple has redesigned Control Center in iOS 18 to provide easier access to many of the things users do every day. The redesign provides quick access to new groups of controls that users use most often, such as media playback, Home controls, and connectivity, and the ability to easily swipe between them. With iOS 18, users can now add controls from supported third-party apps to Control Center. Users can now toggle controls at the bottom of the Lock screen, including choosing from the controls in the Controls Gallery or removing them altogether. With the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, users can quickly bring up controls in the Controls Gallery.
The Photos app is getting its biggest overhaul yet
In iOS 18, the Photos app will get a simplified, single view that displays a familiar grid, and new collections will help users browse by topic without having to organize content into albums. Collections can also be pinned to keep your favorites easily accessible. A new carousel view showcases the most important information, updated daily, and includes your favorite people, pets, places, and more. Auto-playing content throughout the app brings libraries to life so you can revel in past moments as you browse. The app is customizable, meaning users can organize collections, pin collections to access them often, and include what’s most important to them in the carousel view.
Changes to iMessages
iMessage is getting a brand new text effect in iOS 18. It brings conversations to life by amplifying any letter, word, phrase, or emoji with dynamic, animated looks. Users can better convey tone by adding formatting like bold, underline, italics, and strikethrough. Tapbacks are expanding to include any emoji or sticker, and now users can compose a message and schedule it to be sent later.
Later this year, the Mail app will also get new ways to manage your inbox and stay up to date. On-device categorization organizes and sorts incoming email into Primary for personal and urgent messages, Transactions for confirmations and receipts, Updates for social news and notifications, and Promotions for emails and marketing coupons.
Safari changes, new Passwords app, and more
Using machine learning, Safari can display key information about a webpage. For example, users can swipe through a summary to get the gist of the article; quickly see the location of a restaurant, hotel, or landmark; or listen to an artist’s song directly from the song or album article. The reader has been redesigned to offer even more ways to enjoy articles without distractions, with summaries and a table of contents included with longer articles.
Apple iOS 18 also introduces a new Passwords app to make it easier for users to access passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes. The software update gives users even more control with tools to manage who can see their apps, how contacts are shared, and how their iPhone connects to accessories.
