Celina plans to add traffic control devices along Preston Road ahead of landscape improvement project

Celina council has agreed to install additional traffic control devices along Preston Road ahead of the start of a landscape improvement project.

During their Aug. 13 meeting, Celina City Council members approved an additional $106,713 purchase for the $1.23 million Preston Road Green Ribbon project, which includes traffic control devices.

About the project

The Preston Road Green Ribbon Project is a city-run project to improve landscaping and replace flower beds and damaged irrigation along Preston Road. The project is expected to begin in fall 2024 and be completed in March 2025, according to the Celina Capital Improvements Project Dashboard.

The request to add traffic control devices, including truck-mounted mufflers that help cushion the impact of a collision with a car and flashing message boards, was submitted by officials with the Texas Department of Transportation.

Work on the project can begin once the city receives the devices, as TxDOT will not allow the city to close lanes without them, according to meeting documents.

These facilities can be funded through Celina’s park fees and Green Ribbon grants.
