JD.com and British Fashion Council announce new partnership

FASHION TRADE NEWS UK

Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has entered into a new partnership with the British Fashion Council to become the official Asian e-commerce partner of London Fashion Week.

In a statement, the two organisations said the aim of the move was to increase the presence of British and international fashion brands in the Chinese market, while also creating a global platform for Chinese and Asian designers.

JD.com (also known as Jingdong) will leverage its e-commerce infrastructure and consumer reach to help British and global fashion brands navigate the complexities of the Chinese market. The retailer’s platform offers a growing range of luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Burberry, Mulberry and Bottega Veneta.

The partnership will also support JD.com’s efforts to promote Asian fashion brands and designers on the global stage. As the official Asian online retail partner of London Fashion Week in September 2024, the company showcased four brands on the runway, including Hazzys, Ellassay, Marisfrolg and Pure Tea.

The company has also launched a dedicated London Fashion Week page on its app by October 3, which will promote international fashion to its 600 million customers.

Sherrin Kong, President of Jingdong Fashion, said: “The strength of JD.com, Inc.’s logistics network and our cutting-edge e-commerce solutions have made us the go-to partner for international fashion brands looking to succeed in China.

“This partnership with the British Fashion Council is an example of our commitment to promoting diverse perspectives on global fashion in China, thereby fostering vibrant cultural exchange and fashion innovation.”

Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, added: “This partnership provides our emerging designers and brands with a platform to facilitate smoother collaboration across borders, as well as increasing their visibility in the key Chinese market.

“We look forward to seeing what this partnership brings and working together to encourage further collaboration between the UK and China markets.”
