Over 1.3 crore families have applied for PM Surya Ghar Yojana, installation completed in 3.75 lakh houses: PM Modi

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) (India), September 16 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that over 1.3 crore families have registered under the PM Solar Rooftop Scheme since its launch.

Prime Minister Modi made the announcement at the inaugural event of the fourth Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024 in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat.

He also added that since the launch of the rooftop solar panel installation programme, installation work has been completed in 3.75 lakh houses.

“So far, over 1 crore 30 lakh families have registered under the PM Solar Rooftop Scheme and installation work has been completed in 3.75 lakh houses. The results of the PM Solar Rooftop Scheme are remarkable,” PM Modi said.

Highlighting the benefits of the scheme, PM Modi added that it has become a source of additional income for families. The scheme not only generates electricity for their needs but also provides them with Rs 25,000 per year after selling the surplus electricity to the grid.

“A small family consuming 250 units of electricity per month and selling 100 units back to the grid will save around Rs 25,000 per year,” PM Modi added.

On the employment generation potential of the scheme, PM Modi said, “This scheme is expected to rapidly generate green jobs and thousands of suppliers will be needed. It is estimated that around 20 lakh employment opportunities will be created through this scheme.” He also noted that every home in India will become an energy producer through this scheme.

The three-day conference is being organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and is expected to be attended by over 10,000 delegates, including influential figures from government, industry and the financial sector.

The event was also attended by New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Kumar Yadav, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
