Latest on Israel-Hamas war: Israeli airstrikes kill 16 in Gaza, including 4 children, Palestinians say

Palestinian authorities said 16 people, including five women and four children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.

Early Monday morning, an attack razed a house in the sprawling Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, killing at least 10 people, including four women and two children.

Awda Hospital, which received the bodies, confirmed the death toll and said 13 more people were injured. Hospital records show the dead included a mother, her child and five siblings.

Another attack on a house in Gaza City has killed six people, including a woman and two children, according to the Civil Defense, the emergency services operating under the Hamas-led government.

Israel says it is only targeting militants and accuses Hamas and other armed groups of endangering civilians by operating in residential areas. The military rarely comments on individual attacks, which often kill women and children.

Gaza’s health ministry says more than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack that sparked the war almost a year ago. It does not distinguish between militants and civilians in its count, but says just over half of those killed are women and children. Israel says it has killed more than 17,000 militants, without providing evidence.
