SBC Tanzania praises public-private partnership

Dar es Salaam. SBC Tanzania Ltd. has recognized the successful collaboration between the public and private sectors, presenting it as a model of success that has contributed to creating a business-friendly environment conducive to the development of the company.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ziad El Khalil, made the remarks at a ceremony which recognised the achievements of the outgoing Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Avinash Jha, and welcomed the new Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Richards Paul.

Mr. El Khalil appreciated the support of the Tanzanian government and the overall business climate, attributing the company’s success to the favorable conditions created by this cooperation.

“Tanzania has been an exceptional host to our company and the entire business sector, providing a pro-business environment that has allowed companies like ours to thrive. The collaboration between the public and private sectors has been exemplary,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to both the Tanzanian government and its people, noting that the partnership is particularly strong under the current administration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Mr El Khalil praised President Hassan’s pro-business agenda and her “4R” doctrine – reconciliation, resilience, reform and reconstruction – which he said had contributed significantly to transforming Tanzania into an economic powerhouse and a preferred destination for investors.

“We are deeply grateful for the support and cooperation that the government and its institutions have shown us over the years,” said Mr El Khalil.

Also honoured at the event was Mr Avinash Jha, who has served as the CEO of SBC since its inception in January 2001.

Mr Jha’s tenure was characterised by dedication and commitment to excellence and the company paid over 750 billion shillings in taxes under various categories including net value added tax, import duties, excise duties, payroll taxes and income taxes during his leadership.

In connection with the handover of SBC Tanzania Ltd to new management, Mr. Richards Paul, who has held various key positions within the company, will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer from 1 August 2024.

Mr. El Khalil expressed his confidence in Mr. Paul to continue to develop the company and build on the solid foundations created by Mr. Jha.
