Longtime Motorsports Director Ty Norris Leaves Trackhouse Racing

Ty Norris, the team’s longtime director of motorsports, has left his position at Trackhouse Racing, according to a report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic published on Tuesday (September 17).

The report, which was published exclusively on X (formerly Twitter), stated that Norris has peacefully left the championship-winning NASCAR Cup Series organization and could move to the Chevrolet-backed Kaulig Racing team in an undisclosed role.

Norris has served as the team’s president and chief business officer since its original founding by Justin Marks in 2021. The preview for Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race in Bristol no longer includes Norris’ name as it did in previous weeks.

During Norris’ time at Trackhouse, the organization went from fielding a single NASCAR Cup Series entry in Daniel Suarez to making major changes in three years, including purchasing Chip Ganassi Racing, establishing PROJECT91 and most recently purchasing a third charter car from Stewart-Haas Racing to field a third entry for Shane Van Gisbergen.

The 59-year-old has maintained a NASCAR career for nearly 35 years, beginning with a job at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1990. Norris then joined Dale Earnhardt, Inc. in 1996, where he remained until leaving the team in 2004.

His departure from Dale Earnhardt, Inc. led to a brief stint as vice president of special projects at Speedway Motorsports, Inc. before being acquired by Michael Waltrip Racing in 2005, an organization where he remained until the team’s folded in 2015. Norris’ other NASCAR-related positions included president of Spire Sports + Entertainment and president of Spire Motorsports. By 2020, Norris had left the team with his eye on Trackhouse.

Racing America OnSI reached out to Trackhouse Racing to confirm Norris’ departure from the team but had not received a response as of press time.
