Taiwan police investigate Gold Apollo in connection with pager detonations in Lebanon – World

HONG KONG, September 18. /TASS/. Taiwanese police this morning began investigating Gold Apollo, the manufacturer of pagers that detonated in Lebanon, according to Taiwanese media.

According to the report, police are currently investigating the details surrounding the production and sale of pagers at the company.

At around 4:00 p.m. Moscow time on Tuesday, the first reports of mass pager detonations came from Lebanon. The devices detonated in different parts of Lebanon almost simultaneously. Reuters reported that the pagers were brought to Lebanon for Hezbollah members in recent months. According to Reuters sources, Hezbollah ordered 5,000 pagers from Taiwanese company Gold Apollo. The sources speculated that Israeli intelligence could have placed a chip containing explosives in the devices. The company’s CEO has already claimed that Gold Apollo did not manufacture the devices that detonated in Lebanon. According to the CEO, the pagers were shipped by a distribution company that legally uses the Gold Apollo logo.

The incident left at least 11 people dead and approximately 4,000 injured.
