The lifestyle change is in full swing with more wild speculation about the Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo will ultimately name its upcoming gaming console, at large. This time, it’s due to a supposedly leaked production information out of China that appears to show renders of what the Switch 2 could look like, as well as its specs.

The photos of the alleged factory prototype of the Switch 2 come from a Chinese website and collected on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit. They show a device, ostensibly the Switch 2, looking very similar to the existing hybrid handheld, only with a larger screen and a slimmer profile. The bigger difference is in the Joy-Cons, which appear to include additional grooves for the magnetic strips that were it was rumored earlier for mounted controllers. The renders also show a USB-C port on the top of the console and a much smaller bezel around the screen.

While the veracity of these renders is completely unconfirmed, Very good reports that one of its sources, who has not seen an official Switch 2 preview but was briefed on it, believes the renders are in line with what development partners were told to expect. Nintendo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Today’s alleged leaks also included possible specs for the upcoming hardware, including 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. These are in line with previously rumored specifications which came out earlier this year and also teased an 8-inch screen for the Switch 2 console. Some analysts predict that that Nintendo’s new console will cost $400 and games will be sold for $70, which is the current standard price for high-end games on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

If true, all of these leaks point to a much simpler Switch update for its successor, diverging from Nintendo’s typical trends of building new hardware around unique design quirks and gameplay functionality. Instead, the Switch 2 will finally keep Nintendo in the growing portable PC gaming arms race that’s seen the likes of the Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, and other devices since the Switch’s launch.

We won’t know for sure until the company reveals its Switch 2, which is expected to appear during an upcoming Nintendo Direct later this month or next. The company will be racing to crack down on potential leaks until it does.
