Man arrested for open container violation was wanted for murder – NBC New York

Officers stopped a man for drinking from an open container in the Bronx and later learned he was wanted for the murder of a homeless man earlier this summer, police said.

The suspect, 37-year-old Jorrell Shoals, was stopped by officers in the South Bronx around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after he was seen drinking from an open container in public, according to police. When officers ran Shoals’ name, they discovered he was wanted for a murder committed over the summer.

Police were looking for Shoals, originally from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, in connection with the death of Ramon Cruz in the Bronx. Cruz, 54, was slashed in the face on June 23 and taken to a hospital. Cruz died from his injuries nearly a month later, on July 17.

Shoals was arrested and charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. Attorney information for Shoals was not immediately available.
