Grand Theft Auto V Listed as Unsupported on Valve Steam Deck: Learn More | Technology News

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) is now marked as unsupported by Valve. The action-adventure game has consistently ranked in the top 20 games for at least two years on Steam Deck’s most played games list. According to The Verge, it was one of the ten most played games on Valve’s portable Steam Deck last week. The unsupported mark is allegedly attributed to Rockstar breaking compatibility with Valve’s portable device in the game’s online modes.

This issue appears to be related to the recent controversy surrounding anti-cheat measures on Linux. Much like the creators of Fortnite and Roblox, Rockstar has opted not to support Steam Deck with its new anti-cheat software for GTA Online. Instead of initially excluding multiplayer from Steam Deck, Rockstar has removed it from the player roster entirely. The company has also blamed Valve for the issue, stating that “Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online. You will be able to play GTAV Story Mode, but you will not be able to play GTA Online,” suggesting that the single-player mode should still work.

“GTA V and GTA Online are not officially supported on Steam Deck, and any support questions should be directed to Valve’s Steam Deck Support and Community,” Rockstar added on its support page.

Rockstar has not addressed the reason for the switch not being enabled to enable BattlEye anti-cheat on Steam Deck. Valve enabled BattlEye on Steam Deck years ago, and several games that use the anti-cheat software have successfully transitioned to the platform, The Verge reports.
