The iPhone 16 series is reportedly easier to repair than previous generations due to three key changes

The iPhone 16 series may be easier to repair compared to the previous generation of Apple smartphones, according to a report. The Cupertino tech giant introduced the series, which includes the base model, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, at its “It’s Glowtime” event earlier this month. While the company mentioned new hardware improvements, it did not highlight the behind-the-scenes changes it has implemented to make the devices easier to repair. However, there are three ways Apple has made the iPhone 16 series the easiest to repair in the company’s history.

iPhone 16 Series Repair Might Be Easier

There are several reasons why iPhone repairs were previously impossible at third-party repair shops or at home. The company had a strict policy when it came to replacing parts, which made it necessary to order them directly from Apple. Additionally, the battery was glued to the case with adhesive that was very difficult to remove.

However, Engadget’s report claims that the glue issue is no longer a problem, as the tech giant has changed the glue design to use a material that falls off when a low-voltage electric current flows through it. Professional repairmen can remove the battery from the case using just a 9V battery (the typical batteries available at retailers and used in a variety of devices).

Another reported improvement is the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanner in the iPhone 16 series, which is used for FaceID. Previously, repairs were not available outside of Apple service centers due to security concerns about tampering with the system. But now, the new TrueDepth camera can reportedly be swapped from one device to another without any issues.

The third change is also significant. Apple introduced Repair Assistant with iOS 18, which addresses issues with pairing parts. As mentioned above, pairing parts was difficult due to Apple’s strict policies. However, the company now allows users to configure and calibrate new and used parts directly on the device.

These changes will make it easier for experienced users to repair minor faults and replace parts themselves, while others will be able to outsource repairs to third-party shops.
