In short

  • Google TV has updated its free channels app following last week’s rebranding.
  • The updated FreePlay user interface includes new screens for selecting channels and sorting the channel guide.
  • Google TV also added seven new channels to its free channel library.

After rebranding its free Google TV channel lineup last week, Google has now released an updated FreePlay app. The company has also added more channels to the library, bringing the total to 157.

Most users access free Google TV channels via the Live tab, but the platform also has a little-known dedicated app for free channels. With the FreePlay update, Google has brought this experience to the forefront and added a new “FreePlay” shortcut to the home screen (via 9to5Google).

The FreePlay app has also received a much-needed UI update, now featuring new screens for selecting channels and sorting the channel guide. The redesigned UI sorts channels by genre and even includes new categories for Favorites, Recent, and Popular.

You can add your preferred channels to the Favorites category for quick access or select the Recent section to find channels you have recently watched. The Popular category, as the name suggests, collects channels that are popular on the platform.

In addition to the redesigned FreePlay app, the Google TV library has been expanded with seven more free channels, including:

  • Bob Ross Channel
  • The dynamics of comedy
  • Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan
  • Dazn Ringside
  • Dazn Women’s Football
  • Dove Channel
  • Hill Television

These channels can be accessed in the new FreePlay app or via the Live tab in Google TV. The former is not widely available at the moment, but should reach all users in the coming days.
