IRFA monitors trade provisions in the Farm Act

Biofuel groups are constantly monitoring the latest changes to the Farm Act.

Monte Shaw, executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, says the regulations could impact ethanol exports.

“The agricultural groups will take the main provisions, so we spend a lot of time looking at trade provisions. Funding for MAP and FMD programs, which will help us export.”

Brownfield says it will be a record year for exports, despite the tough rural economic environment. “I think it will be close to 1.8 billion gallons in the final marketing year. That’s 18 100-million-gallon ethanol plants that are operating on exports. Let’s keep our eye on that ball.”

The latest data from the Renewable Fuels Association shows that almost a third of the country’s ethanol exports go to Canada.
