PM Modi buys Lord Jagannath artifact, makes digital payment on Vishwakarma program

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Wardha in Maharashtra on Friday to celebrate the progress made in the first year of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana scheme, the Prime Minister visited the stall of an artisan and also purchased an artefact of Lord Jagannath.

PM Modi, after handing over certificates to the beneficiaries of PM Vishwakarma Yojana, walked through the thematic pavilion where artisans and craftsmen were displaying their products. PM interacted with a few of them and bought an artifact of Bhagwan Jagannath from one ‘Vishwakarma’. He also made a digital payment through UPI by scanning a QR code.

A video of PM Modi buying the idol and making the digital payment has surfaced on social media. Many netizens have appreciated the PM’s gesture and described it as an “extra effort” to appreciate the hard work of the artisans.

Earlier, while participating in the anniversary celebrations of PM Vishwakarma Yojana, PM Modi unveiled a commemorative stamp issued by India Post. He also issued digital identity cards and digital skill certificates to over 1 lakh beneficiaries of PM Vishwakarma.

He also released digital loan sanction lists for 75,000 beneficiaries. Loan cheques for 18 beneficiaries of PM Vishwakarma scheme were distributed by the Prime Minister on the spot.

Addressing the anniversary function of PM Vishwakarma Yojana in Wardha, Prime Minister Modi said, “This initiative has positively impacted countless artisans, protecting their skills and supporting economic growth.”

He also appealed to artisans to take advantage of the benefits offered by this programme and become entrepreneurs and businessmen.

Two schemes of the Maharashtra government were also launched by Prime Minister Modi. They include the ‘Acharya Chanakya Kaushalya Vikas Scheme’ for free skill development training for youth and the ‘Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Women Startup Scheme’ to help women-led startups become self-reliant.

Under the Kaushalya Vikas Scheme, skill development training centres will be set up in reputed colleges across the state to provide training to youth in the age group of 15 to 45 years. Under the Ahilyadevi Holkar Women Startup Scheme, women-led startups in Maharashtra will be given early stage support. Financial assistance of up to Rs 25 lakh will be provided.
