Best Cheap Electric Scooters 2024 UK

Best for: Pure style, smooth ride

For reasons both practical and obvious, all electric scooters look similar. Two wheels, a platform, a steering column and handlebars – all the essentials and nothing that isn’t. But the latest model to roll off Yadea’s impressive production line, the Artist, has a certain style of its own that helps it stand out from the rest of the electric scooter swarm. It’s sleek, sleek, sexy and futuristic, and yet… it also has an undeniable Sinclair C5 vibe. (The C5 is a three-wheeled pedal-assisted electric car created by British inventor Clive Sinclair in 1985 with the intention of revolutionising personal transport.)

But where the C5 ultimately failed, the Artist’s place on the e-winners’ podium seems assured. Straight out of the box and easy to assemble, requiring only a power connection between the steering column and the wheel, then a few screws to secure the two, the Artist charges to full in 4.5 to 5.5 hours, giving it enough juice to cover a maximum range of 18.6 miles, carrying a payload of up to 110kg.

Definitely a comfortable ride, the Artist has 9-inch tubeless tires with anti-slip grip, front and rear dual suspension shocks and a nicely padded platform, ensuring that the worst of the shocks and vibrations don’t hit your knees and back. Meanwhile, the front drum brake and rear electric brake work together to provide quick but controlled braking, so you don’t get thrown through the air on your way to the ground with chips every time you stop.

Equipped with a powerful 600W (peak) motor and three speed modes, you can cruise along at a relaxing 3.7mph, boost it to 9.3mph if you’re in a hurry, or open it up and take it to the top at 15.5mph, which can be accessed and set via Bluetooth on the Yadea smartphone app. Speaking of which, very intuitive to use, you can also lock and unlock the Artist via said app and set a few personal preferences.

And because the UK is a place with unpredictable weather conditions, the IPX5-rated Artist is great at dealing with wet weather, so you can ride in torrential rain, all the while keeping an eye on your speed and battery level on the handy multi-function LED display on the handlebar.

With LED lights front and rear to help you “stay safe, stay visible” as Road Safety says, and flashing indicators on the ends of the handles to let other road users know where you’re going, the Yadea Artist may be the heaviest electric scooter I’ve seen here, and at 18.6kg, yes, it’s got a bit of a heft to it, but it’s also a complete hoot, with everything you could possibly want to ensure the safest, smoothest and most stylish electric scooter experience possible. And that’s exactly what it does, so start building those biceps… even if your “leg days” are completely over.
