Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the US: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a three-day visit to the United States, where he will attend prestigious international meetings and forums. The trip will focus on strengthening India’s global ties, participating in the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit and addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Below is a detailed description of the main events and objectives of this visit.

The Quad Summit in Wilmington

September 21 Prime Minister Modi will attend the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. The Quad, or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, is an alliance comprising India, the US, Japan and Australia, focused on promoting peace, prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Ahead of the summit, PM Modi expressed enthusiasm for working with other Quad leaders — President Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida — to identify paths of cooperation. “The Forum has emerged as a key group of like-minded countries that will work towards peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” PM Modi tweeted.

The Summit is expected to address major global issues, including ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, maritime security, emerging technologies and a new initiative focused on cancer research. India is also set to host the next Quad Summit, underscoring its growing role in regional diplomacy.

Strengthening the India-US Strategic Partnership

A significant aspect of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US will be his bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden. The leaders will discuss progress made in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and explore new opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas such as defence, trade and technology.

In his tweet, the Prime Minister said, “My meeting with President Biden will allow us to review and identify new avenues to further deepen the India-US partnership for the good of our people and the global good.”The meeting is expected to cover key sectors like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology, which are crucial to the economic future of both the nations.

Engagement of Indian Diaspora and Business Leaders

During his stay in New York, Prime Minister Modi will also focus on strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora, which plays a significant role in fostering people-to-people contacts between the two democracies. On September 22, he will engage with the Indian community and also meet CEOs of leading American companies to explore opportunities for greater collaboration between India and the US in cutting-edge technology.

The Ministry of External Affairs emphasised that the aim of these activities is to deepen cooperation in the areas of technology and innovation, which is intended to ensure India’s position as a global leader in sectors such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.

Speech to the UN General Assembly

On September 23, Prime Minister Modi will address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the ‘Future Summit.’ The event will bring together several world leaders to discuss urgent global challenges, including climate change, equitable access to vaccines and rebuilding economies in a post-pandemic world.

Prime Minister Modi’s speech is likely to reflect India’s stance on international cooperation and its commitment to global peace and security.

Visit Focused on Global Leadership

During his three-day visit, Prime Minister Modi aims to reaffirm India’s global position as a key player in international diplomacy, with a special focus on the Indo-Pacific region, strengthening the India-US strategic partnership, and addressing global challenges through multilateral fora like the UN and the Quad.
