Emma Raducanu defeats Yue Yuan to advance to Korea Open quarterfinals

British Emma Raducanu advanced to the quarter-finals of the Korea Open, defeating Chinese Yue Yuan in three sets.

The 21-year-old Raducanu took control of the match, winning six consecutive games to clinch the first set and then took control of the second.

The 2021 US Open champion, ranked 70th in the world, eventually converted her seventh match point to win 6-4 6-3 and advance to the quarter-finals in Seoul.

On Saturday, Raducanu will play Daria Kasatkina. The semifinals will be held the same day, as Friday’s match was postponed due to rain.

Top-seeded Russian Kasatkina, world number 13, defeated American Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-2.

“I think these courts are beneficial to her because they change their minds quite often,” Raducanu said.

“But for me, every time I have the opportunity to face a top-level opponent, it’s invaluable. It helps me build my confidence. It’s a match where I really have nothing to lose.”
