Pokemon Go 0.331.0 update fixes bugs but breaks Go Plus devices

Pokemon Go players are claiming that the mobile game’s update 0.331.0 has broken functionality on Go Plus devices.

Developer Niantic released patch 0.331.0 for Pokemon Go on Monday, September 16, and in the release notes promised bug fixes and improvements that should make using the game a much smoother experience.

However, according to many Trainers, while the update has fixed a few issues, it has also caused a few more. Players who use the Go Plus auto-catch feature have reported that the device stops working properly if a Pokemon is not in focus.

One person told the Pokemon Go Hub website: “As soon as you change tasks or lock the screen, the device disconnects within a minute. Once you reopen the game, it starts working again.”

The same user described his problem on the TheSilphRoad subreddit, saying that he had tried multiple workarounds to no avail. Even uninstalling the game or resetting his devices didn’t help. Update 0.331.1 on September 19th also didn’t bring a solution.

pokemon go plus broken

For a short while, it worked to revert to the previous Pokemon Go 0.329.2 build. However, Niantic has since forced the latest update as a mandatory download, meaning those with jailbroken Pokemon Go Plus devices have no choice but to endure it until a proper fix is released.

Unfortunately, this may not be an isolated issue. Several Twitter/X users have reported that their Go Plus devices have not been working properly for the past few days.

“No wonder it wouldn’t do anything when the game isn’t in the spotlight. It basically renders it unusable until it gets fixed,” one player wrote under the Pokemon Go Hub post.

Someone else chimed in and added: “Same with Go++…”

Others report that their auto-catchers are still working fine, even after the latest updates rolled out to Android and iOS. As such, it’s unclear how widespread this issue has become, especially since Niantic has yet to address it at the time of writing.
