Janet Jackson Questions Kamala Harris’ Race: ‘She’s Not Black’

Janet Jackson has apparently challenged Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy.

The singer and songwriter spoke with The guard for his Weekend podcast, which discussed her ongoing Together Again tour, which is set to stop in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 13. During the conversation, the topic of the 2024 United States presidential election came up. When the reporter noted that America could be on the verge of voting for its first black president, Jackson interrupted her and shared her thoughts.

“And you know what they said?” Jackson asked. “She’s not black, I heard she’s Native American.” She added, “Her father is white, that’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. They told me they found out her father is white.”

The presidential candidate’s father, Donald J. Harris, is a Jamaican-American economist and professor at Stanford University. He separated from his Indian mother when Harris and her sister Maya were young.

Asked again if she thought America was ready for a black woman president, Jackson admitted she wasn’t sure.

“I don’t know,” she said. “I don’t want to answer that question, honestly, because I really, honestly, I don’t know. I think it’s going to be chaos either way.”

Jackson’s comments about Harris’ race come after Donald Trump questioned whether his opponent was actually a black woman at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in July.

“She’s always had Indian ancestry and she’s just promoted it,” Trump said in Chicago. “I didn’t know she was black until a few years ago when she became black, and now she wants to be known as black. So I don’t know if she’s Indian or black?”

He continued, “I respect every single one of them, but she clearly doesn’t, because she was Native American from start to finish, and then all of a sudden she changed her background and became black. I think someone needs to address that as well.”
