UP Board: Maximum 2,000 students in each centre for exams in 2025

It is believed that this will result in a reduction in the number of examination centres, according to officials familiar with the decision.

A maximum of 2000 students will participate in the High School and Intermediate Examination-2025 organised by UP Board in each centre.

Last year, the rule was that each centre could accommodate a maximum of 1,200 students, but in government-run and government-aided secondary schools with larger spaces, a provision was introduced to allow the establishment of an examination centre with a maximum capacity of 1,500 students.

However, in the policy for fixing examination centres, sent by UP board secretary Bhagwati Singh to the district inspectors of schools (DIOSes) for the 2025 examinations, there is a provision to set up a centre for a maximum of 2,000 students in government-run, government-aided and unaided secondary schools with higher capacity, said officials in the state secondary education department, who are aware of the decision.

This is believed to reduce the number of examination centres and also facilitate better monitoring of Board exams, they said. The minimum number of students in each examination centre remains unchanged from last year at 250, says the centre allocation policy for 2025 exams, a copy of which is with HT.

As per the policy, girls from urban and rural areas who do not have access to self-service centres will be allotted examination centres located at a maximum distance of 7 km from their respective institutions. Similarly, candidates with disabilities of more than 40% will be allotted examination centres located at a maximum distance of 7 km.

Student examination centres will, to the extent possible, be located in schools within a maximum radius of 12 km from each school. However, due to difficult geographical conditions and inaccessibility of schools, secondary and high school candidates may be allocated examination centres within a radius of 15 km.
