US to propose ban on Chinese technology in connected vehicles

The Biden administration is set to propose a ban on Chinese software and hardware in connected and autonomous vehicles over national security concerns, sources told Reuters. The move comes amid concerns about data collection and potential manipulation of U.S. vehicles by Chinese companies.

The proposed rules, expected Monday, would ban the import or sale of vehicles with key Chinese communication or automated driving systems. The public will have 30 days to comment before they are finalized, with the software and hardware bans set to take effect in 2027 and 2029, respectively.

These restrictions also apply to other foreign adversaries, including Russia.
