Shell’s Cecile Wake says ‘dysfunctional’ regulations threaten energy transition

Shell, the oil and gas giant that has invested billions of dollars in Australia, says a broken and complicated regulatory system is undermining the clean energy transition even as the company prepares to invest heavily in renewables.

Shell Australia chairwoman Cecile Wake said obstacles to the development of gas and large renewable projects threatened to undermine progress towards 2030 climate goals. Labor wants to cut carbon emissions by 43 per cent from 2005 levels by the end of the decade, a target that looks increasingly out of reach.
