UK weather: Dangerous weather warning after 13,000 lightning strikes

Areas where flooding is expected include Leighton Buzzard and Luton in Bedfordshire, Atherstone in Warwickshire and parts of London.

It will be wet for much of Monday, with a band of rain stretching from south-west England, through the Midlands and into eastern England.

Driving conditions could be difficult and rural communities have been warned they could be temporarily cut off due to flooding.

Some affected areas could receive 100 to 120 mm (4-5 inches) of rain.

The orange warning area stretches from Herefordshire and Gloucestershire into East Anglia and the Humber, including Birmingham, Nottingham and Sheffield.

Met Office meteorologist Jonthan Vautrey said the area could see a month’s worth of rain on Monday.

“Given the rainfall we have had over the last few days, there is a high possibility of disruption and flooding,” he added.
