Students from throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and beyond continue to attend The University of Texas at Arlington for its high-quality education and research opportunities.

According to preliminary enrollment statistics for fall 2024 just released, total UTA student enrollment is 41,613, an increase from fall 2023. Undergraduate enrollment at UTA continues to grow, increasing 3% to 29,271.

Five UTA colleges also saw enrollment increases, including more than 5.5 percent in the College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation and the College of Science.

“UTA is so proud to offer a top-notch education, led by dedicated experts, in the middle of one of the fastest growing parts of the country,” said President Jennifer Cowley. “With rich research opportunities signaled by our R-1 Carnegie Classification status and a welcoming student body, it’s no wonder UTA attracts new Mavericks from across Texas and around the world — with students hailing from 98 different countries.”

Additional evidence that students are choosing UTA as the place to pursue their higher education goals includes a 3.8% increase in the number of returning undergraduate students and an impressive 6.1% increase in the number of transferring undergraduate students to UTA.

UTA prides itself on its commitment to providing access to a world-class education for students. Through the dedicated efforts of UTA staff, the University works closely with students and their families to identify funding sources for which students are eligible.

Evidence of this commitment is the $400 million in financial support received by UTA students, with tuition and fees fully covered for 49% of all undergraduate students and 44% of all new first-year students.

Additionally, this year, 47.5% of all enrolled undergraduate students were Pell Grant recipients, an increase of 27.7%, with more than 49% of the incoming undergraduate class receiving a grant.

Another indicator of increased interest from UTA students was a 2% increase in the total number of FAFSA applications compared to last year. This was especially noteworthy given the long-delayed national rollout of the new FAFSA.

“Credit goes to the collaborative and focused efforts of UTA’s admissions and financial aid teams to educate students and their families about the application and financial aid processes,” said Luisa M. Havens Gerardo, vice president of enrollment management. “Despite the national challenges of the FAFSA this past year, this team of dedicated professionals tirelessly engaged and helped students navigate the financial aid application process and identify resources to make going to college and achieving their academic goals a reality.”

Once they arrive at the university, UTA is committed to providing students with the resources and support to succeed in pursuing their academic and career goals.

For example, last year, the Office of Transition Programs implemented the Transition Support Initiative, which mentors first-generation college students and encourages them to take advantage of campus and academic resources that will help them succeed.

“As more and more students choose UTA, the University is incredibly focused on ensuring their success,” said Tamara L. Brown, vice provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “Through a coordinated campus effort, our goal is to holistically and proactively support our students, both in and out of the classroom. The positive retention trends reflect the Maverick spirit of our students and the University’s efforts to provide them with the resources they need.”

UTA, which consistently ranks in the top 4 percent of all research universities and has dozens of academic programs ranked in the top 100 nationally, was recently recognized by Wall Street Journal AND Washington Monthly as a top national university and the best in the DFW region — citing how well UTA improves students’ chances of graduating and their future earnings. UTA graduates have the highest median first-year earnings of all non-medical UT System institutions, according to the 2023 UT System Study of the Earnings of Undergraduates Working in Texas. UTA also ranks 56th in the nation for the least debt among graduates, according to a 2023 U.S. News & World Report ranking.
