Some users report issues with touching and swiping the iPhone 16/Pro touchscreen

Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have only been on sale for a few days, but reports of issues have already started to emerge. Some owners of the new iPhone 16 Pro say they’re having issues that cause their swipes and taps to not be properly registered by iOS.

It’s not uncommon to see reports of problems whenever Apple releases a new product, and the iPhone is certainly no different.

Now, 9to5Mac reports that there are complaints online — as well as the results of its own testing — that a software bug is causing iOS to not properly detect when users swipe or tap the iPhone 16 Pro’s screen.

The issue appears to be related to Apple’s touch rejection system, which is designed to detect accidental touches to ensure unwanted commands are entered on the screen.

A growing number of iPhone 16 Pro owners are reporting intermittent issues with the phone’s touchscreen responsiveness. Users are experiencing taps and swipes seemingly being ignored, affecting various interactions such as scrolling, pressing buttons, and skipping keystrokes on the virtual keyboard.

If this is indeed a software issue and not a hardware issue, we can certainly expect Apple to release a new software update that will address these issues sooner rather than later. For now, though, there’s not much iPhone 16 Pro owners can do about the issue, which is sure to be particularly irritating for those affected.
