Former SBS CEO Albert Rodriguez to Lead MediaCo Audio

During last year’s Q3 earnings call, Albert Rodriguez unexpectedly resigned as president and COO of Spanish Broadcasting System. Filings with the SEC now reveal his new executive position: Chief Revenue Officer of MediaCo.

In addition to his role as CRO, Rodriguez will also serve as president of MediaCo Audio, a new position disclosed in a Sept. 16 notice of a compensation agreement. Over the course of his 24-year career at SBS, Rodriguez rose through the ranks from general sales director of the Miami radio cluster and chief revenue officer of the television division before becoming chief operating officer and then president in 2021. The role was later reprised by CEO Raúl Alarcón Jr.

Joining Rodriguez in the MediaCo C-Suite is Brian Kei, who served as Estrella Media’s COO and CFO. He will continue as COO for the entire company following MediaCo’s acquisition of Estrella’s content, digital and commercial operations in April.

The hires come as MediaCo expands its Spanish-language broadcasting arm. The owner of Hot 97 and WBLS added two Spanish-language HD radio signals to its New York portfolio in August.

A third name is mentioned in the SEC filing, as Andrew Carington is employed by MediaCo as chief legal officer for parent company Standard General, a hedge fund controlled by Soohyung “Soo” Kim.
