Google TV expands to new formats and new countries

With the launch of Google TV Streamer, the platform is expanding to new types of devices, as well as several new countries.

Google TV, the Android TV-based solution, is not to be confused with Android TV, which was around before Chromecast’s relaunch in 2020. I know it’s a bit complicated, but the new solution has advantages that the previous one didn’t have, and over time it’s slowly replacing the old Android TV (even though Android TV is doing quite well).

One thing that’s keeping Android TV going is the form factor, which hasn’t yet embraced Google TV. A great example of this is projectors, which have long shied away from Google TV. That’s changing recently, with the launches of Xgimi and other brands.

Another new format we’ve seen recently is “art” TVs similar to Samsung’s well-known “The Frame.” Hisense and TCL have both released Google TV-powered sets of this type in recent months, as we’ve covered .

Google officially announced the introduction of new formats to the platform today, suggesting we’ll likely see even more over time.

The selection of Google TV devices is better than ever. In addition to the new With Google TV Streamer you can choose from new art TVs from Hisense and TCL and smart projectors from Vankyo, Epson and XGIMI.

Google TV as a platform is also expanding to new regions. Google says Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines are now supported, but keep in mind that some Google TV features may vary by region.

Google TV and Android TV are now available on over 270 million monthly active devices, a huge increase since the last update in 2023.

Google TV is also expanding to more countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. And we’re proud to deliver a better TV experience to the 270 million monthly active Google TV devices and other Android TV devices.

Google TV Streamer launches tomorrow, and our first review is already available.
